There are a lot of useful things that we throw away every day. Here is a list of some uses I've found for things most consider trash.

Spark Plug Starter: If you have ever had a tough time getting a spark plug started or burnt your hands on a plug that's still hot then this one is for you. Next time you change spark plug wires keep a couple of the boots (the ones on the spark plug end of the wire). Next time you have a difficult plug just slip it over the end of the plug and you have an insulated flexible handle. A piece of rubber tubing such as fuel line also works well for awkward turns and long reaches.

Disposable Funnel: This ones real basic. Old oil containers and other screw top bottles and jugs make great funnels. Just cut the bottom out and you've got a funnel. The great part is when you're done you can throw it away.

Cheap and Dirty Plug Wire Tester: When looking for an intermittent cylinder misfire don't forget the plug wires. One way to find a plug wire that's not up to snuff is to use an old spray bottle. Fill the bottle with water and with the engine running lightly spray the wires near the cap. Continue working your way toward the spark plugs until you find or don't find an arc.
